Sterling Golf is guided by two principal owners and operators: Robert Steele, serving as President, and Rene Rangel, holding the position of CEO.
Established in 2010 by Rene Rangel and Robert Steele, Sterling Golf is a Houston based prominent ownership and management group that acquired Houston National Golf Club. Following this acquisition, Sterling Golf embarked on the construction of a second championship golf course, Sterling Country Club, on the Houston National property. The distinctive feature of Houston National Golf Club lies in its composition, being one of the rare clubs in America with 18 private and 18 public holes. Subsequently, Sterling Golf collaborated with Texas A&M to revitalize The Golf Club at Texas A&M. Presently, Sterling Golf operates ten golf courses and has overseen renovations totaling over 15 million dollars in golf courses and clubhouses within a span of six years.
The portfolio of managed properties includes The Golf Club at Texas A&M, Golfcrest Country Club, Panorama Golf Club, and Brenham Country Club. In 2021, Sterling Golf welcomed two new additions—Mallard Golf Club in Lake Charles, LA, and East River Nine in downtown Houston. Cypress Bend Resort is the latest jewel in Sterling Golf’s crown, featuring an 18-hole championship golf course in West Louisiana. Additionally, Sterling Golf owns Turf Technologies, a distributor and consulting group providing turf grass management chemicals for golf courses and athletic fields.
As the President and principal owner, Robert Steele, a 1976 graduate of Texas A&M, achieved success in the steel business as the owner of Texas Honing. Serving as the President of Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Texas in 2009 and 2010, Mr. Steele led the club to record membership and revenue growth during challenging economic conditions for the golf industry.
Rene Rangel, Co-Founder and CEO of Sterling Golf, brings over 30 years of experience in golf course and country club management as a Class A PGA professional. In his role as CEO, Rangel oversees all operations and business development for Sterling Golf properties. Additionally, he serves as the COO of Golfcrest Country Club. Rangel played a pivotal role in the design and construction of Sterling Country Club, The Golf Club at Texas A&M, and the renovation projects at Houston National, Golfcrest Country Club, Panorama Golf Club, Mallard Golf Club, and Cypress Bend Resort. Under the leadership of Rene and Robert, Golfcrest Country Club and Houston National Golf Club were successfully revitalized, steering them from near bankruptcy to record growth in a challenging economic landscape. Sterling Golf’s unwavering commitment to exceptional course conditions and service excellence remains the driving force behind their success.
